Pur Sang 2022, Didier Dagueneau, Magnum – If “Silex” is the intellectual, mineral-driven monk, “Pur Sang” (French for “Thoroughbred”) is the muscular, powerful racehorse. Crafted by Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau from the clay-flint soils of the La Folie vineyard, this is a Sauvignon Blanc of immense texture and depth. In the warm 2022 vintage, and presented in a Magnum, it is a monumental wine that perfectly balances the richness of the sun with the estate’s signature tension.

What’s it Like?

This is a wine that commands attention. It is rounder and more fleshy than the Silex, offering a gorgeous, expansive nose of white nectarine, ripe pear, and orange blossom, intertwined with a subtle smokiness and a hint of fresh vanilla bean from the oak aging. On the palate, it is full-bodied and unctuous, coating the mouth with ripe fruit, yet it is instantly snapped back into focus by a vibrating, crystalline acidity. It is powerful, wild, and incredibly long.

Perfect For

A wine for rich gastronomy. It has the weight to stand up to dishes usually reserved for light reds, like veal chops with mushrooms, turbot with a beurre blanc sauce, or a truffle risotto.

The Critics Agree…

Critics have long adored Pur Sang for its ability to combine power with grace. For the 2022 vintage, expect praise for its “gorgeous texture” and “layered complexity.” It is frequently cited as one of the few Sauvignon Blancs that truly behaves like a Grand Cru Burgundy in terms of weight and age-ability.
