Value or sell Your Wine Cellar in Switzerland
Value or sell Your Wine Cellar in Switzerland
In short: Le Roux Vins, based in Thalwil near Zurich, inventories, values and sells private wine cellars across Switzerland. Every bottle is recorded and photographed on site, then valued against recent Swiss auction results. Wines are sold at auction or to private buyers, only if you want to. A valuation on its own commits you to nothing.
Who Is This Service For?
Anyone who owns a private cellar and wants to know what it is worth. Typical situations:
- you have inherited a wine cellar and don’t know what is on the racks;
- you want to downsize or refocus your collection;
- you are moving and need to clear your cellar;
- you need a wine valuation for insurance, an estate settlement or a divorce;
- you are simply curious what your collection is worth today.

1. On-Site Inventory, Bottle by Bottle
We come to you: your cellar at home, a chalet or a storage unit. Our own app records every bottle with a photo and reads the label using artificial intelligence. We note:
- producer, vintage and format;
- fill level;
- label condition;
- whether the original wooden case is present.
You receive a complete, clean inventory of your cellar.
2. A Valuation Based on Real Auction Prices
Every bottle is compared with the hammer prices that equivalent wines have reached at Swiss auctions. We keep our own price database built from these results. Our estimates are deliberately conservative: they sit at the lower end of achieved prices, never above. You know what you can realistically expect, which wines are at their peak and which deserve more time.
3. Collection and Safe Storage
If you decide to sell, we collect the wines from you, including in Ticino, Graubünden or French-speaking Switzerland. Transport is refrigerated. The bottles are then kept in climate-controlled storage in the Zurich area until they are sold.
4. Sale at Auction or to Private Buyers
For every lot, we choose the right channel:
- Swiss wine auctions, ideal for sought-after wines, big names and large formats. We handle the consignment, the detailed list (fill level, condition) and the auction house’s deadlines.
- Our network of private buyers, direct and discreet, often faster and at lower cost.
Lower-value wines are grouped into lots so that they sell well. The goal is always the best net result for you.
Your Cellar on Your Phone
You get access to a personal page in English, French or German, protected and available only on your phone. It shows you at any time:
- your stock and your cellar’s estimated value;
- the bottles sold;
- each estimate compared with the hammer price.

Statements and Payouts
After every sale you receive a detailed statement showing the hammer price, fees and net amount. Payouts are made after 6 months and after 12 months, by bank transfer to the account of your choice. If a wine finds no buyer, we make you a buy-back offer.
Across Switzerland
We look after cellars in Zurich, Zug, Davos, Lugano and all of Ticino, as well as Lausanne and Geneva. Le Roux Vins is based in Thalwil, on Lake Zurich.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is my wine cellar worth? It depends on the wines, vintages, formats and the condition of the bottles. After the on-site inventory, you receive an estimate per bottle and for the whole cellar, based on recent Swiss auction prices.
Do I have to sell afterwards? No. Many clients only have their cellar valued, for example for insurance or an estate. We only sell if you explicitly ask us to.
Which wines sell well? The most sought-after are Bordeaux, Burgundy, Piedmont, Tuscany, Rhône and Champagne from renowned producers, mature vintages and large formats such as magnums. Lower-value wines are sold in lots.
How long does a sale take? For an auction, the wines must be delivered a few weeks before the sale date. Private sales are often faster. Payouts are made to you after 6 months and after 12 months.
What does the service cost? We work on commission on the sale proceeds. The exact terms are set out in a mandate that we discuss with you.
What happens to wines that don’t sell? For wines that find no buyer, we make you a buy-back offer.
I have inherited a cellar. Where do I start? Write to us. We inventory the cellar on site and value it. You then decide calmly what to keep, share or sell.
