Tignanello 2007, Marchese Antinori – In the long history of Tignanello, few vintages are mentioned in the same breath as the legends of 2016, 2018 and 1985. The 2007 is one of them. Antonio Galloni described the entire 2007 Antinori collection simply as “off the charts.” Robert Parker awarded 95 points. And then there is the historical context that makes this vintage even more special: it was the last Tignanello produced before the major renovation of the winery — the end of an era that since 1971 had written the history of modern Tuscan wine. The summer of 2007 was warm, with a cooling August that gave the Sangiovese vines the time and freshness needed to develop a wine of great concentration, elegance and longevity. A wine that today — after 18 years of ageing — has reached its absolute peak.

What’s it Like?

In the glass, a radiant, deep ruby with violet reflections, slowly transitioning to garnet — the ripeness of the vintage visible but by no means excessive. The nose is an elegant, layered bouquet: ripe red fruits, blackberry, cherry, blackcurrant, cedar, then deeper tertiary notes born with the years — espresso, clove, fine tobacco, leather, a hint of Tuscan oregano and dried herbs. Licorice and forest floor in the background. On the palate, vivid, full-bodied, with an opulent, almost lavish texture — the tannins fully dissolved and silky, the acidity lively and structural. The finish is long, complex, spiced and persistent. A wine that speaks simultaneously of power and finesse — and that evolves in the glass for hours. At least 2 hours of decanting is strongly recommended.

Perfect For

A great Tuscan feast at the height of maturity. Its complex, spiced profile pairs beautifully with a classic Bistecca alla Fiorentina over charcoal, a Tuscan wild boar ragù with black olives, a Tagliata with rocket and aged parmesan, or a long slow-braised beef cheek with polenta.
