Tignanello 2018, Marchese Antinori, Magnum: Tuscan Perfection in Double Format

The Antinori family has been making wine since 1385 — six centuries, 26 generations. And yet with the Tignanello 2018, they have created something exceptional even by their own standards. The 2018 vintage was cool and long, the ripening period slow and precise — ideal for the Sangiovese vines of the Tenuta Tignanello, between the Greve and Pesa river valleys, at 350–400 metres altitude in the heart of the Chianti Classico zone. The result: a Tignanello of breathtaking purity and elegance, unanimously acclaimed by the world’s most important critics as one of the three greatest Tignanellos ever produced. In a 1.5-litre Magnum, it ages more slowly and more deeply — the ultimate format for a wine that has time on its side.

What’s it Like?

In the glass, it shows a deep, intense ruby with a slight violet shimmer. The nose is an elegant symphony: ripe cherries, blackberries, blackcurrant, cherry blossom and rose, underpinned by fine tobacco, camphor, mocha and dark spices. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied, with a vibrancy and tension that is simply electrifying. The tannins are silky, perfectly ripe — carrying the fruit without dominating it. The finish is of remarkable length and precision, with notes of leather, cedarwood and licorice.

Serving temperature: 17–18°C ·

Perfect For

An exceptional dinner for a special occasion. The Magnum invites sharing — alongside a classic Bistecca alla Fiorentina over charcoal, a slow-braised wild boar ragù, or a Tagliata with truffle and parmesan.
